HOUSE RECAP: House sends bill increasing fines for Scott’s Law violations to governor

A bill that would increase penalties for Scott’s Law violations has passed both chambers of the General Assembly. A bill carried in the House by Democratic Rep. Marcus Evans, of Chicago, increases fines and creates a fund to better educate motorists on safe driving procedures when passing emergency response vehicles that are stationary on the side of the road.

Members of a liberal House caucus urged action on a bill that would rewrite Illinois’ abortion laws before session is scheduled to conclude on May 31. They also discussed recreational marijuana, affordable housing and high property taxes.
