Illinois leaders: Keep Blagojevich in prison

Illinois political leaders from both parties on Thursday said former Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich should remain in prison despite Republican U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement that he was considering commuting the sentence of the ex-governor. Trump reportedly made his remarks on Air Force One on Wednesday night, saying Blagojevich has “been in jail for seven years over a phone call where nothing happens."

Pritzker signs coal ash removal bill; opponents say more changes needed

Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a new state law this week aimed at ensuring safe closure of toxic coal ash pits and financial protections for taxpayers should the pits cause environmental disaster. While advocates said the bill was a significant step forward for clean air and water, opponents including the Illinois Chamber of Commerce said changes were needed to the bill moving forward.
