Pritzker supports bill allowing college athletes to collect endorsement deals

Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Monday gave his support to a proposal that would allow college student athletes in Illinois to be paid for the use of their likeness. The bill's sponsor, Democratic Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch, of Hillside, said he expects to call the bill for a vote Tuesday in the House Higher Education Appropriation Committee.

Veto session primer: With few overrides to consider, new proposals take forefront

For the first time since the General Assembly adjourned its historic regular legislative session in early June, lawmakers will be back at the Capitol for more legislative action next week. The annual “veto session,” so called because it’s the Legislature’s first opportunity to override the governor’s vetoes each year, will convene Oct. 28-30 and Nov. 12-14.
