CNI’S IMPACT SERIES | APRIL 24, 2025

Local News: Why it’s Important to Southern Illinois | A Capitol News Illinois Impact Series

Thu, April 24 • Doors open at 5 p.m. | Panel begins at 6 p.m.
The Varsity Center (418 S. Illinois Ave. Carbondale, IL)

Representatives from the Illinois Answers Project, ProPublica, Northwestern’s Medill Illinois News Bureau and Capitol News Illinois will join SIUC’s Saluki Local Reporting Lab and the Daily Egyptian for a public panel discussion on the state of rural media.

Guests will enjoy light refreshments, have the opportunity to mingle with reporters and editors from around the region, and provide critical feedback to help shape local reporting. Local media representatives are invited to arrive early for interview opportunities with panelists. The event is free of charge and open to the public.

CNI’S EVOLUTION & IMPACT | NOV. 19, 2024

Professionals in media and Statehouse journalism discuss Capitol News Illinois’ evolution since 2019 and the impact its reporting and programming has had on state government, Illinois news media, and residents throughout the state. Opening remarks by Jak Tichenor, host of Illinois Lawmakers. Managing Editor and Broadcast Director for CNI, Jennifer Fuller, moderated the panel of speakers including:

  • Carol Marin, Journalist
  • Rich Miller, Publisher, Capitol Fax
  • Bernie Schoenberg, Retired political writer and columnist, State Journal- Register


 

Capitol News Illinois is a nonprofit news service operated by the Illinois Press Foundation that provides coverage of state government to newspapers, broadcast outlets and other media throughout Illinois. In its first 5 years, CNI coverage has been published or broadcast well more than 100,000 times in nearly 600 media outlets. CNI is funded with support from the Illinois Press Foundation and the Robert R.
