A civics nerd from childhood, Andrew joined CNI in February 2023 and brings a unique blend of data-driven and traditional reporting to our newsroom. He loves numbers, statistics and visual reporting – things that scare off most journalists. He’s legitimately pumped about helping CNI expand its digital reporting.

WHEN HE’S NOT WORKING WITH CNI: When he’s not at work, Andrew can be found on his bike along Lake Michigan, plugged into a competitive video game or behind the lens of a vintage camera.

WHY HE JOINED CNI: A civics nerd from childhood, Andrew believes that for Illinois to have truly participatory democratic institutions, the people of Illinois need to have reliable access to information about their political leaders’ actions and about the institutions of power that govern the state.

WHAT HE WANTS YOU TO KNOW ABOUT CNI: While most of our readers get our news from their local paper, CNI’s site is one of the most accessible ways for people to get the latest news on state government – all without a paywall. In an age of increasing media consolidation, CNI stands out as an independent voice that prioritizes providing the news people need in a way they can access.

WHERE HE SEES CNI IN THE FUTURE: “CNI is already a fierce contender for statehouse coverage. In the next few years, I know the organization will become a powerhouse of public affairs reporting for the people of Illinois and serve as a model for how to truly engage a statewide audience.”
