Join Our Team at Capitol News Illinois

At Capitol News Illinois, we’re dedicated to providing in-depth and objective reporting on the Illinois government and politics. We’re looking for talented and passionate individuals to join our team and help us deliver high-quality journalism. New positions will be posted below.

The nonprofit news organization will be adding three reporters to cast the widest net possible for covering state government, the relationship between Illinois and the federal government, and how state and city of Chicago government overlap. We aim to fill three positions by the end of the year. SPRINGFIELD-BASED: STATEHOUSE REPORTER

We’re looking to replace our Statehouse reporter who led the newsroom’s education and public health coverage. The ideal candidate has a knowledge of state government, can read legislation, can learn on the fly and is adaptable to changing surroundings. Salary $60,000-$70,000. See a full listing here.

CHICAGO-BASED: ENTERPRISE REPORTER

We’re seeking an enterprise-first reporter who can help launch investigations from the Chicago area, work with our partner newsrooms and unearth news that’s off the beaten path. The reporter will, to some extent, focus on the city’s relationship with state government, and will be available for spot news and daily-turn assignments as necessary. Salary $65,000-$75,000. UNSPECIFIED LOCATION FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND COURTS REPORTER

We’re also looking for a reporter who can cover developments from court, especially as it pertains to Illinois’ relationship to the federal government. The ideal candidate understands how courts interact with legislatures and states interact with the feds. They’d cover the attorney general, federal courthouses and, in the right scenario, keep an eye on the state’s congressional delegation. Salary $65,000-$75,000. See full listing here.
