Graduated tax amendment heads to House floor

A constitutional amendment that would allow the state to impose higher tax rates on greater margins of income needs only a vote from the full Illinois House to be brought to voters after passing committee Monday.  Discussion at the House Revenue and Finance Committee meeting to debate whether the question should be put on the 2020 election ballot centered largely on a proposed graduated rate structure which was not up for vote.

Illinois House Republican leadership will brief their members Monday on a balanced budget proposal which they say the governor’s office won’t listen to, according to an internal caucus memo obtained by Capitol News Illinois on Friday.
