Senate panel advances abortion bill to full chamber

It took fewer than 30 minutes of testimony and debate for a panel of state senators to advance a measure overhauling Illinois’ abortion statute to the full chamber Thursday morning. The bill received support from only Democrats. Sen. Melinda Bush, a Democrat from Grayslake and the bill’s sponsor, said she felt “relieved” her colleagues voted to progress the legislation.

Tougher regulations on door-to-door energy sales pass House

The Illinois House passed a bill backed by the state’s attorney general Thursday that would enact greater regulation of alternative retail energy suppliers, many of which go door-to-door using “deceptive practices” to lock consumers into contracts that ultimately lead to higher energy costs.
