Unlike in California, requiring presidential candidates to release tax returns failed in Illinois

A new California law requiring presidential candidates to release five years of tax returns to qualify for the state’s primary ballot is similar to a measure an Illinois state senator called “the most clearly unconstitutional legislative proposal” he ever voted on. The bill passed the Illinois Senate on partisan lines earlier this year before stalling in a House committee.

Senator files bill banning cancer-causing ethylene oxide emissions

A suburban state senator filed legislation Tuesday that would ban emissions of a known cancer-causing gas in Illinois by 2022. It also, he hopes, would decrease the likelihood that a Willowbrook medical supply sterilization company linked to increased cancer rates in its surrounding area would ever emit the chemical again.
